Although general perceptions on Yoga vary, the majority of these have someone sitting with their ankles behind their neck and chanting with incense.
This does happen, but there is more to it. There is intense strength training using your own body for resistance and intense cardio to get your body warm and limber in preperation for intense flexibility poses.
Each pose provides at least one specific holistic function for the body and beyond this, a heightened spiritual and emotional state. 
Many believe that the highest peak in Yoga is to sit in Lotus pose with an excellent posture while meditating for an hour.
